I’ve been programming for 7 years now so you can tell that I really enjoy that. Those 7 years of programming lead me to Artificial Intelligence. What is up guys! I’m trying to figure out how to apply Machine Learning Technology to our daily life. For the moment, I’m thinking of personal digital assistant (like Siri, Amazon’s Echo or Google Home). It’s very fun to find a great idea, once I will get one, I will execute on it as hard as I can. I will also make more Articles about Machine Learning because it’s obviously the future. Besides, I’ve been really interested in the neural lace concept popularized by Elon Musk. Basically, a neural lace is a brain layer that allows you to communicate with your Technology via your brain without the need for a physical interface like a smartphone. So today, we’ll talk about brain-computer interfaces.
To begin with, we should first discuss what is really a brain-computer interface (BCI). Basically, a BCI reads your mind and make things move. It uses an Electroencephalogram (EEG) made up of 16 sensors that read electrical signals from the brain and translate it into a signal command like “walk forward” with an extreme accuracy. For example, Chinese Researchers introduced a prototype for a mind-controlled car. Although the prototype will never be released, it shows how useful this Tech can be. In fact, this Technology is very promising for paraplegic individuals. Just imagine if they could browse the web by moving a mentally controlled mouse.
BCI sounds amazing, right? Not so fast! There are still some limitations… Both the patient and the system are learning the process from each other at the same time, so it can take months of practice and training. For example, it takes a huge amount of time just to mentally write your name. EEG controlled exoskeletons helps people who have lost control of their legs walk again but it takes a whole crew of physical therapists to wire someone into the machine. With that being said, this Technology is really promising and we are already seeing a lot of cool gadgets using BCI including Star Wars toys and mind-controlled drone.
